專案成果

In 2024, National Central University commissioned the Taoyuan Bird Society to conduct its first comprehensive wildlife survey on campus, lasting for more than six months. The survey recorded a total of 153 animal species, including 5 species of mammals, 44 species of birds, 13 species of amphibians and reptiles, 10 species of fish and crustaceans, 74 species of insects (32 butterflies, 14 dragonflies, and 28 other insects), and 7 other species.

Among these, four are endemic to Taiwan — the Taiwan Blue Magpie, Styan’s Bulbul, Taiwan Barbet, and Swinhoe’s Tree Lizard. Eight species are listed as protected, including the Taiwan Blue Magpie, Crested Goshawk, Crested Serpent Eagle, Chinese Goshawk, Kestrel, Collared Scops Owl, Brown Shrike, and Flower Snake.

A total of 21 non-native species were also found, mostly among birds and fish. Additionally, the appearance of migratory and wintering birds further increases the number of bird species observed. These findings demonstrate the rich biodiversity within the National Central University campus.
